Vocal harmony has always been at the heart of country music, since its early days in the 1920s. From the CARTER FAMILY to the DIXIE CHICKS, the juxtaposition of voices typical of the southern Appalachian mountains gives shivers to those who are lucky enough to hear them.
In 1987, in Nashville, a historical moment took place in the reunion of three womens voices: those of DOLLY PARTON, LINDA RONDSTADT and EMMMYLOU HARRIS for their album TRIO. These three voices, each with a different complimentary quality, created a new model for womens groups of the future.
In 2004, three American women, finding themselves far from their native home, nostalgic for the life described in the songs they sing, united to form a trio called THE SONG SISTERS. The parallels with the Parton/Rondstadt/Harris trio are remarkable.
